ABOUT THE GALLERY
The Gallery is physically located in a beautiful historic building in Paonia, Colorado. We have renovated and restored what was originally two side-by-side commercial buildings built in the 1890’s as a hardware store and a dry goods emporium. Later they were joined together as “Paonia Mercantile” during Paonia’s golden age as the fruit growing capital of America. It became the town library in 1960, and thus we have a heritage of lively western commerce and intellectual curiosity.
As we remodeled the old building we discovered the original ornate tin ceiling still in place above acoustic tiles and hardwood flooring that is rumored to be the situs of many a rowdy dance party. Adjacent to the Gallery we have added an old fashioned ice cream parlor. “Ollie’s” can trace its inspiration to the original Ice Cream and Confectionary appearing in Paonia circa 1904. Step across the hall and visit Ollie's for a delicious ice cream treat.
