JOHN DAVIS COOMBE

"Effective art makes you feel something deep inside the moment you see it," says John Coombe. "I paint scenes from the west that capture my imagination and elevate my spirit. I have succeeded as an artist when I can translate that powerful feeling into oil and get a strong reaction from the patron." Mr. Coombe paints evocative western scenes, primarily oil on canvas. He is a self professed "lifetime student of art and art history who dabbles in law and higher education."

As an attorney, Mr. Coombe specialized in intellectual property matters which he refers to as "performance law." He has represented artists, investors, athletes, musicians and governing organizations in rodeo, hockey and football. He received art training at Williams College and the University of Denver, where he recently retired as Vice Chancellor.

Residents of Denver and Paonia, he and his wife, Susie, have purchased the old Paonia library building and converted it into Glennie Coombe gallery which features both established and emerging Western artists in both traditional and non-traditional mediums.
